L'MAD GUILLOTINE LAUNCH NEW COLLECTION AT SA FASHION WEEK 2018

L’MAD GUILLOTINE in partnership with visual artist, MARLENE STEYN presents:

Her Sun and Her Waters 2018 Summer Capsule Collection

South African Fashion Week 2018 at 44 Stanley Avenue saw brands L’MAD Collection and Guillotine coming together to present their latest collaboration with internationally acclaimed, visual artist Marlene Steyn. With set design by Counterspace Studio.

Marlene Steyn produces immersive, installation-based experiences, cultivating an expectation for her fantastic, constructed worlds. Inspired by psychoanalytic theory, Steyn incorporates images from art history and popular culture. Her paintings and sculptures have been likened to that of the Dutch master, Hieronymus Bosch yet her historical references stretch far and wide. Steyn was born in Stellenbosch and currently lives and works in Cape Town. Her work features in numerous public and private collections including the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA).

Featuring selected works by Steyn, 'Her Sun and Her Waters' is a contemporary capsule collection defined by modernist forms and luxe fabrics. Box-like and columned silhouettes fall from stiffened oversized collars, lapels and armholes. Each limited edition item is meticulously made in 100% silk twill, habotai, satin, organza and Irish linen with embroidered detailing. Once the silks are digitally printed, garments are hand cut in-house at the Guillotine Studio. They are then meticulously placed for each pattern to ensure they create a beautiful story on each garment. Every garment is unique because of this placement technique and every item is hand sewn by Ella Venter and James Mtapasha.

L’MAD GUILLOTINE is a luxury label that works together with select African artists to create beautiful limited edition garments and bespoke collections from natural fabrics. The ethos behind the brand is to create garments and accessories that celebrate cutting edge design and promote the work of contemporary African artists.
